몇 년 전, 저는 탈북민들과의 만남을 통해 북한의 실상을 직접 듣게 되었습니다. 그들의 증언은 제게 큰 충격을 주었고, 제가알고 있던 북한에 대한 정보가 얼마나 피상적이었는지를 깨닫게 해주었습니다. 이 경험을 통해 북한의 인권 문제를 국제 사회에 널리 알려야겠다는 결심을 하게 되었습니다.
북한 인권 문제는 더 이상 한국만의 문제가 아닙니다. 이 문제는 동북아시아를 넘어 국제 사회 전체가 함께 풀어야 할 공동 과제입니다. 일본도 오랫동안 납치자 문제를 주요 외교 의제로 삼아왔지만, 이 문제 역시 일본 혼자 해결할 수 없는 성격의 것입니다. 한국 역시 북한과의 문제를 독자적으로 풀어나가기 어려운 상황입니다. 그렇기 때문에 한미일 공조가 절실하며, NKNGO Forum은 이 협력의 가교가 되고자 설립되었습니다.
NKNGO Forum은 북한 인권 문제와 납치자 문제에 대한 국제 사회의 인식을 높이고자 합니다. 한미일 간의 협력을 강화함으로써 북한 관련 문제의 해결 방안을 모색하며, 교육과 연구 활동을 통해 북한 인권과 한반도 통일에 대한 지속 가능한 변화를 이끌고자 합니다. 또한 일본 내 북한 관련 단체들과 민간 교류를 촉진하여 협력의 기반을 확대하고, 국제 사회가 북한 인권문제에 대한 책임감을 가지고 적극적으로 참여할 수 있도록 촉구하는 것을 목표로 합니다.

Background and Goals of NKNGO Forum
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to meet with North Korean defectors and hear firsthand about the realities of life in North Korea. Their testimonies were deeply shocking, making me realize how superficial my understanding of North Korea had been. This experience led me to resolve to raise awareness of North Korea’s human rights issues within the international community.
The issue of North Korean human rights is no longer just South Korea’s concern. It is a shared challenge that requires the collective effort of the international community beyond Northeast Asia. Japan has long made the issue of abductions by North Korea a key diplomatic agenda, but it cannot resolve the issue alone. Likewise, South Korea faces limitations in addressing these challenges independently. This is why trilateral cooperation between South Korea, the United States, and Japan is essential, and the NKNGO Forum was established to act as a bridge for this cooperation.
The NKNGO Forum aims to enhance international awareness of North Korean human rights issues and the issue of abductees. Through strengthened cooperation among South Korea, the United States, and Japan, the Forum seeks to explore solutions to North Korea-related challenges. It will lead sustainable change through education and research activities focused on human rights in North Korea and the reunification of the Korean Peninsula. Additionally, the Forum will promote private-sector exchanges with North Korea-related organizations in Japan to expand the foundation for cooperation. Ultimately, the Forum strives to encourage the international community to take responsibility and actively engage in addressing North Korea’s human rights issues.

一般社団法人NKNGO Forumの設立背景と目的
数年前、私は北朝鮮からの脱北者と出会い、彼らから北朝鮮の実情を直接聞く機会がありました。彼らの証言は非常に衝撃的で、私が知っていた北朝鮮に関する理解がいかに表面的であったかを痛感しました。この経験を通じて、北朝鮮の人権問題を国際社会に広く知らせる必要性を強く感じました。
北朝鮮の人権問題はもはや韓国だけの問題ではなく、東北アジアを超えて国際社会全体で取り組むべき共通の課題です。日本も長年にわたり、北朝鮮による拉致問題を重要な外交課題として取り上げてきましたが、この問題は日本単独で解決することが難しい問題です。同様に、韓国も北朝鮮との問題を独自に解決するには限界があります。そのため、日米韓三国の協力が不可欠であり、NKNGO Forumはこの協力を促進する架け橋として設立されました。
NKNGO Forumは、北朝鮮の人権問題と拉致問題に関する国際社会の認識を高めることを目的としています。日米韓三国の協力を強化することで、北朝鮮に関連する課題の解決策を模索します。また、教育と研究活動を通じて、北朝鮮の人権向上と朝鮮半島の統一に向けた持続可能な変化を促進することを目指します。さらに、日本国内の北朝鮮関連団体との民間交流を促進し、協力の基盤を拡大します。最終的に、国際社会が北朝鮮の人権問題に責任を持ち、積極的に関与するよう促していきます。
